Happy Chinese New Year

Tomorrow will be the first day of the year of Pig. Well, there are really not many events here for the celebration, except a party by CHIME in Saturday night tomorrow. The most important and happiest thing is that she is coming to town! Alright, I appreciate that if there are any suggestions of good restaurants Seattle, Bellevue and Redmond.

Happy New Year!

    小虎,你好:

第一点, keep improving on your 英文 so you can polish up your grammar, syntax and expression and redo a better “About” page. If not, it comes across as being stilted & written wholesale in 中文 before being translated using babelfish or google translate. Mind you, these tools get better all the time. Proficiency, fluency & mastery are all possible, achievable and they set one apart from the n00bs (if I may use this 1337 lingo). Otherwise, a high school dropout may sound more educated than an MSc, LOL. For instance, just check out how Prof Chen of Yale expresses himself at his site: (http://www.som.yale.edu/Faculty/zc25/index.htm) Like you, he was also from the PRC. So, 继续努力,加油吧!

第二点, you claim to use Linux and hence should know better than to recommend Windoze, the malware magnet & security whore, for PC users. At the very least steer them towards OS X, or better still Linux/*BSD. Anyone who’s been exposed to superior Open Source software that is inherently secure by its very design and yet worship at the feet of M$ Wincrap is seriously 神经病, 脑袋出问题 and 无药可救. Or perhaps you’re sucking up to M$ publicly in cyberspace in the hope of snagging a H1-B visa from Redmond, you sly dog, you. Hello… why should anyone be working for the Dark Side with bosses like rocking chair retard (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0qNVe024RvI) and screeching monkey boy (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dbCmnRztK1Y)? There’re better tech companies to work for: IBM, for instance. They do groundbreaking research there, unlike M$ who merely cut & paste technology from smaller, innovative companies it buys, and it’s not even doing a good job of it. M$’s sub-standard, insecure & ill-designed software and nasty, nasty business practices (latest being DRM that deprives legitimate content purchasers of fair use on non-DRM certified hardware) speak volumes about the evil M$ empire. Money (that comes from gullible Windoze consumers) may buy “talent”, but the inferior M$ culture and management will never generate good software.

第三, can’t you refer to your girlfriend in a more romantic manner than “she” or “seven”? You don’t treat her like a digit, do you?

OK, enough of my rant. In the spirit of the Lunar New Year, 我祝你新年快乐,万事如意!Oink, oink. This is the Year of the Piggy, after all… does it mean more “ham” as in spam? LOL.

    Cheers.

Feihong: Thank you for your comment. I bet your comment is the longest one among all the comments made to my blog since ever it is started. I appreciate that.

Point 1), Thank you again for your encourage. A good way of practicing English is don’t be afraid to show the poor grammer to the public, isn’t it?

Point 2), I had the same thought as you long time ago. But now I think it is not all correct. Take a deep look at AJAX and .Net framework for instance, you will find how innovative this company is.

Point 3), Her name is Seven and it is her name. I refer Seven as ’she’ because her blog is named as ‘Her Story’. You will find she refers me as ‘him’. Nothing is more romantic than this, eh?

    :)

You missed out the best part from my comment: the YouTube vids! Check them out. And you want to work for buffoons like that 2 idiots? 没评论,吗?

回你第一点:It should be “encouragement” (a 名词) rather than “encourage” (a 动词). A good way to practise English (note that I’m not using the American variant “practice”), or any language for that matter, is to listen and read more quality programmes (instead of the American “program”) & publications that improve one’s vocabulary and sentence construction so that you can express your ideas fluently & effectively. Showing poor grammar is just poor taste and does nothing, I repeat, NOTHING, for improvement, I’m afraid.

回你第二点:You just confirmed that my suspicion about you is spot on. Why demean yourself by sucking up to the shameless Dark Side of computing (apart from the fact that you’re “shameless” by nature - well, you did openly admit so insofar as exhibiting poor English is concerned)? What’s so “innovative” about AJAX and .NET? The only areas M$ innovate are in being slimey, sleazy and shafting everyone else to mint another dollar at the expense of customers and computing users in general by attempting to distort the market with proprietary technology that doesn’t play well with others. 我们应该感谢 Open Source that gives us a viable choice instead of surrendering our rights to a monopoly that takes consumers’ money in return for seriously & consistently flawed products that compromises user security. Internet Exploiter with its ActiveX malware-friendly scripting, poor CSS, etc is but one of many examples of broken software. If Mozilla, Opera & Konquerer are able to produce superior browsers without a pile of money, it’s ludicrous and laughable that a multi-billion dollar corp like M$ could not do so. It took them 5 years just to come out with something that barely matches current open source browsers, while open source browsers are racing ahead with fresh rounds of innovation. It’s this a mark of an innovative company? Not! M$ bloatware aka Vis-duh is so unwieldy, it needs a damn tank engine just to drag its ass around. Now, is forcing unwitting consumers to upgrade on hardware that doesn’t give any appreciable performance increase just for Aero eye-candy when current hardware is perfectly usable suppose to be OK? 开玩笑!FYI, Beryl, an Open Source fork of Compiz, is able to produce more dazzling, impressive & flexible user-configurable eye-candy that outclasses Aero for a fraction of Vis-duh’s minimum hardware requirement. All in all, despite generous M$ budgets, it produces crap, while under-funded Open Source continue to innovate and remain responsive to the needs of its user-community. Now what does that say about M$ “engineers” or M$ as a whole? Yup they suck bad. Reaaal bad. The monopoly days of M$ is drawing to a close. Vis-duh is not doing well at all. Businesses have done their sums and the combined training & transition costs of hardware upgrades and foreseeable Vis-duh optimised software does not contribute to their bottom line at all. Adoption rate will have to depend on depreciation cycles now since no Vis-duh killer app is on the horizon. If you’re going to mention DirectX 10 for games, is M$ depending on gamers, now? On a strategic level, more countries are turning to Open Source to assure their information security & control and not be vulnerable to a single US corporation. On a consumer level, more users than ever are exploring non-M$ options. You need to wisely factor in all these parameters, and more, if you’re betting your uncertain future with a market-share losing company that is unethical and consumer-hostile.

回你第三点:Seven, eh? May I suggest you name yourself “S(t)even” or even “Eight”, like the nursery rhyme.: “one, two, buckle my shoe… seven, eight, lay them straight” just to match. Your mutual non-committal way of addressing each other is totally NOT romantic, 我可以跟你肯定。

    后会有期吧,小虎。
